The fabulous Mayor of Morpeth Betty Bawn

Betty has lived in the area for over 40 years and worked as a primary schoolteacher, and has also been a brownie leader, play leader and parish church councillor 

She was elected as a Councillor three years ago. She has acted as Mayoress to her son David Bawn when he was Mayor of Morpeth

I was lucky enough to be able to meet up with Betty today outside Morpeth Town Hall. She was in between taking her grandchildren to the local swimming pool

Betty’s main charity for her Mayoral year is the ’Oswin Project’, which creates secound chances for people with criminal records, through training and education
